What’s covered in the course

The Adult Protection & Safeguarding, MCA/DOLS (Mental Capacity Act/ Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards) course can be delivered at your premises, our trainers will bring all necessary equipment, all you have to do is open the door!  Oh, and put the kettle on! 

Adult Protection & Safeguarding, MCA/DOLS is essential for any one working with or wanting to work with an adult deemed ‘Vulnerable’.   We can deliver either the level 1 or level 2 in Adult Protection & Safeguarding, depending on your requirements. 

The course is 5 hours long and can be delivered at times to suit you, we appreciate that care work is not a 9-5! Safeguarding Adults from Harm is everyone’s duty. This course will take delegates through all of the relevant area’s of safeguarding, looking at some of the key events that have led us to the current standing and legislation. The course is interactive, including scenarios that delegates will discuss with each other to understand safeguarding concerns and general bad practice.

The Adult Protection & Safeguarding, MCA/DOLS course follows all of the latest reguatory updates in an engaging and interactive manner.  This qualification is assessed through a 30 question multiple choice examination. The duration of the examination is 45 minutes.
Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 20 out of 30.

Abuse occurs when a vulnerable adult is mistreated, neglected or harmed by another person who holds a position of trust. Everyone has a right to feel safe, and to live without fear of abuse, neglect or exploitation.

The abuse of vulnerable adults can take many forms. It can happen anywhere, including nursing and care homes, day services, hospitals, people's own homes or public places.

This Adult Protection & Safeguarding, MCA/DOLS Training Course is designed for care staff and will raise awareness of the importance of Safeguarding Vulnerable People.

It remains a dreadful fact that abuse of vulnerable adults happens within our society. Staff who work within health and social care settings require high quality training to ensure that they fully understand how to properly look after those in their care. This course covers all core aspects of vulnerable adult protection to help staff recognise potential signs of abuse and understand how to take action. 
The level 1 is designed as an introduction for new staff and the level 2 is aimed more at more experienced staff or Management. We can tailor the course around your business model so learners will be more engaged in the discussions.

By the end of the Adult Protection & Safeguarding, MCA/DOLS training course learners will be able to:

  • Identify laws and national guidance relating to safeguarding adults
  • Describe what vulnerable adults (VA’s) want and need to feel safe
  • Identify some of the main forms, signs and effects of abuse
  • Explain what multi-agency working means for individuals and their work environment
  • Understand what Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty covers
  • Describe what individuals need to do about reporting concerns, including “whistleblowing” in their own work setting.
